From Boston to Crawford To a presidential face See them hit the ground running Everywhere's a favorite place Tell them what they want to hear Truth disappears without a trace Trust is spinning vicious circles Another rat is in the race They'll assail an easy target And do we really need to mention They'll lean hard against the citizen Who goes against convention Staying home, I'm disgusted But don't call it apathy In the year of our election They're pursuing you and me Twenty-five propaganda rules Those poor GI Joes treated like pack mules Strength should not be confused with pig headed leaders Words abused Like Lady Liberty, oiling up Passport in her hand Where is that McDonald's? She is hungry and must expand I know, you know the silver tongued folk I know, you know the killing joke I know, you know, everybody knows When the candidates are running We know where the summer goes It disappears after it overheats Beneath the media glow Televise it, super size it Now they're asking me to vote We're living in Distortion.

about

In October 2005, Resident Genius released a split EP featuring the late, great historian and activist Howard Zinn. The album was released by Chicago's Thick Records and received favorable reviews from the likes of Punk Planet, Alternative Press, etc. Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy offered some brief notes for the sleeve. Mass Giorgini, a giant in the world of 90's punk, mixed and mastered free of charge.

The idea was inspired by the Bad Religion/Noam Chomsky split. Chomsky was a bit data heavy, so we reached out to Professor Zinn. He was totally behind the idea. The whole band met up with him in Toledo, Ohio. What an unforgettable evening. Somewhere, photos exist. Lots.

Anyway, songs featured here were either never released on the final EP or are alternative vocal, mix takes.

By the way, the title "You Can't Blow Up a Social Relationship" comes from a pamphlet issued by the great anarchist Kate Sharpley Library. The authorship is unknown.

Resident Genius had forged a relationship with Ramsey Kanaan, founder of the venerable AK Press in Oakland, CA. Ramsey used to send us tons of left leaning literature free of charge. We would put them out at the merch table for free. They were always gone by the end of the night.
